Although purely cosmetic, the ability to choose from various armor permutations in Halo 3 was undoubtedly a cool feature and helped players stand out in multiplayer. From the standard Mark IV armor to the prestigious Recon armor, there's a lot of different looks to choose from. I decided to list my top five Spartan armor perms. Unlike the weapons lists, this matter is purely opinion, so I encourage everyone to post their favorites in the comments section.

5. EOD

It's chunky, it's goofy, it's different - and that's exactly why I like it. Unlike the other armors, which are mainly sleek and smooth, the EOD - or Explosive Ordnance Disposal - armor looks like a rejected Mega Man boss. The armor was made for dealing with explosions and the helmet was designed to channel explosive power around the wearer's head to keep it from flying off. You don't want to lose your head, do you?

4. Scout

First things first: I was immediately drawn to this armor because of its striking resemblance to a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. That may sound like a silly reason, but there's nothing silly about the flood of nostalgia I get from wearing it. After reading about it online, I learned that it was made from advanced materials to be the ultimate stealth suit without negatively impacting endurance at all. How awesome is that?

3. Hayabusa

The idea to include this armor perm was sheer genius on the part of Bungie. Not only are game crossovers awesome, but putting a metal ninja in Halo 3 fulfilled the fantasies of many fanboys out there. If only you could use the armor perm in single player to take on the flood, then you could have one of my dream battles of ninjas versus zombies. And for bonus points, metal Hayabusa sort of looks like Shredder, making it perfect for fighting foes in Scout armor.

2. Mark IV

I had to have Master Chief's original, iconic armor somewhere high up on the list. Even though he may look like a glorified dirt bike rider, his armor is recognized the world over and tells people in multiplayer that you're not here to screw around with various armor perms - you're the real deal. You don't take flack from anybody and you don't care about metal ninjas - you're just here to get the job done.

1. Recon

Ah, sweet, precious Recon armor. I would take this opportunity to say "I can has Recon armor" but the truth of the matter is I has Recon armor. I'm one of the elite few who own this sacred perm and you better believe I'm tootin' my own horn. The rarity of this armor perm makes it widely desired throughout the Halo community and that makes it number one on my list.
